We all eat. We all consumer a wide range of edible bundles of nutrients. Some eat steak, some eat burgers, and some don’t even eat… Unfortunately. But they’re too busy trying to find something, they’re not posting it on twitter.

Twitter, in my view is a wide net. Its a cocktail party. Think about it like that. Be interesting. Share and engage in mutually interesting stuff. Provide value. Have fun. Don’t sell. Im not going to beat a dead horse anymore.

But still, WHY is it that i see so many people tweeting these same kinds of things happening, YEARS later?

Im not sure. But i’ve adopted a little different overall approach. Its more targeted and will be measured a bit differently.

The key to utilizing twitter to work for you is realizing that it is part of a bigger picture.. Your content marketing strategy.

Twitter is a marketing channel, yes. But it is different than other an advertising channel. It is a microblog, so it is centered around sharing “condensed” content, and engaging in REAL communication and discussion.

Although there are parts that can be automated, and some that should be i think in the name of efficiency, it is a SOCIAL network.

Your personality brings it to life.

My Twitter Goals and Strategy consists of….

1. Determining a bigger picture content marketing strategy and ultimately integrating my twitter goals and strategy.

The brand is not some mystical or robotic third party. Just as my blogs are branded with my own personality, so are my tweets. Since i am a consultant and offer internet consulting services out of ann arbor, as well as tips for musicians, songwriters, and artists in the new music business. i am about building long term relationships with people.

2. Setting clear goals for my twitter efforts of the brand

My goals with my @jamieleger twitter account http://www.twitter.com/jamieleger

-Establish my online presence and make myself available to my audience and potential leads.
-Connect to and create relationships with people to network, collaborate and partner with.
-Share the most valuable insights, tips, and techniques with my audience.
-Build a vetted list of targeted and interested followers, and follow interesting people.

3. Selecting an management tool for twitter – to increase efficiency.

I’ve tested and used several tools from hootsuite, to tweetdeck, to cotweet, just recently

checked out tweetadder, but will be renewing with social oomph, as it is the best tool for
my needs. The tweet scheduling features are second to none, and overall is the best, most
comprehensive twitter tool i’ve used.

4.Creating a maintenance plan.

My maintenance plan is pretty simple.

-Every day create new useful tips, and slowly compile tweet packs. (eventually create
enough of them so that the recurrence of the automated tips is so far between times that it
won’t be noticed or anywhere close
to bothersome for anyone.

-Always personally respond to my reply to’s, DM, and monitor mentions and retweets
every day.

-Every day do something toward building my follower base.

-Do my best to engage with people every week, by commenting/replying and/or asking
questions.

5. Staying consistent

The consistency is paramount to the success execution, in order to get an accurate read

on the success of my twitter goals and strategy.

I will adhere to these until i make the decision if it is worth the time investment to continue.

I’ve decided to give twitter another round after throwing my hands up and jumping off the twitter wagon at the end of last year… This year i am focusing my efforts with better twitter goals and strategies.
