And… probably a lot more than you think.
There is an inherent process to learning any and everything. Generally there is no RIGHT or WRONG way.
BUT The only WRONG way, is the one that doesn’t allow the flexibility for you to make mistakes and be WRONG at times.
It is important for you to ENCOURAGE yourself for accepting the challenge and pushing yourself to get to the next level in your artist development, whatever that may be.
Whether that’s as you develop on the business aspect of things, or as you grow as an artist, songwriter, producer, or musician. BOTH are a necessary part of Artist Development.
Understand that there are MULTIPLE aspects of our career that we need to manage, and it’s ALL APART OF IT.
The idea that we can simply be an Artist without any supplementary skills is ignorant at best, and LETHALLY DANGEROUS at worst.
The latter being MUCH more REALISTIC.
Yes, Artist Development takes TIME.
There are SKILLS that you need TO LEARN. Skills YOU have to DEVELOP. They don’t get their on their own. YOU have to make it happen. Take responsibility for the action aspect of it and that is uncomfortable. It’s new, it can be overwhelming, and you can certainly do it.
Things aren’t always going to be CONGRUENT, or in perfect allignment, until they are.
Understand THAT.
That SIMPLY means that the road IS going to be messy, there will be lots of confusion at times. Illogical, irrational as it may be, i think it’s best to stay true to yourself. Follow your “HEART” as they say…
Which can be difficult, especially if what you are doing for a living, or “trying” to do for a living, IS driven by your heart and soul.
The fact is that there are no shortcuts. You don’t get there without sweat and hard work, and those nights you’d like to forget. In fact, honor those. Understand that they ARE in a very REAL sense a part of the journey.
If you are in a place where these words RESONATE with you, keep going. I PROMISE you’ll get there. But you HAVE to keep going.
Thanks,
Jamie

Great post Jamie!
Just wanted to add* my two pennies…encouraging words are very much needed, it’s so easy to get frustrated when it feels like your passion is being stifled by others if not yourself. Flaky musicians, bad communicators, demanding promoters and unmotivated engineers are just a few things but the list goes on…
I read a comment of a post that was angry by an industry statement that said (and I paraphrase): “The key to success is finding your way out of obscurity” – they likened it to any impossible statement, such as – “the key to wealth is winning the lottery” – ridiculous truths with no “how-to” –
Anyway, at the risk of writing an essay I’ll end this comment with, thanks 🙂 x (please ignore earlier typo LMAO!)
Exactly, Dreama. Glad you liked it.
Exactly, No How-To’s…
Let me know anyway i can help.
